Highspire joins Paws for help in dealing with feral cats ...

The Highspire Borough Gathering voted Tuesday to touch the Steelton Borough's Paws Trap, Neuter and Amends program to handle with its feral cat mess.

Steelton works with Paws, a national coalition, rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife and housing and take up cats and dogs.

To degrade the cat inhabitants, volunteers will trap and spay or cut cats, then emancipation them where they were found.

Highspire officials will advertise the program and beg volunteers to set traps and bestow necessities.

As a inhabitant of Highspire, and one that has been putting up with homeless cats for years, I am appalled that the boro would help in this endeavor by using tax dollars. I have been irritating to rid my field of strays for years. It is industriously to do when the neighbors are feeding them. To collar and then spay or ovariectomize them is only dealing with half the complication. Releasing them where they were caught is by a hair's breadth perpetuating the unmanageable whether spayed or neutered or not. We have a cat question in Highspire, crystal clear and elementary. Releasing them again does nothing for the residents except exaspirating the complication. Trap and take out the cats. Do not unloose them again in my neighborhood. Take them to your neighborhood or put in more dollars and take them to the Humane System. Behind the times an ordinance making it unlawful for allowing cats to dogie and also for feeding them. Unless I am absolutely missing the sailboat here, I miss to view how it is in residents interests to assign tax dollars on this problem and then releasing them. The difficult is bigger than good vagrant cats. It is residents intriguing in cats and then turning them out. Other residents feeding them. These strays captivate other cats to the size and then the circle starts over again, except for the spay and neutered. In other words the stay cat predicament still exists.
